Newsflash: Grace Kelly, movie star and real-life princess, grew up in our own East Falls. Awww, magical. I'll save my Grace Kelly Walking Tour blow-by-blow for another blog (lucky you!) but suffice it to say we did a little 2-mile loop passing by St. Bridget's (where the Kelly fam went to church), by the former Ravenhill Academy (where Grace went to school. PS: I think Ravenhill sounds like a school from a Roald Dahl book where there's a very, very sinister headmistress.), and by the Kelly family home on Henry Avenue (now marked with one of those fancy blue and yellow historic plaques). George and I enjoyed the little trek, but Duke was more intrigued by the squirrels scampering about in the fall weather. What can I say, the dog's not much of a movie buff.
Whoops. Instead of, oh I dunno, continuing the theme of the morning and walking down to Kelly Drive or doing something equally active, I sort of sat on my couch and didn't move. Turns out Boy, Snow, Bird is even better than the Castle book. Who woulda guessed? Har har. Plus, apparently it was TV premiere week last week, which means there was a perky little episode of Hawaii Five-0 just waiting in the On Demand queue for me. Really embracing the staycation at this point. #Sloth.
Friends, if I can share just one piece of advice with you, it's this: GO TO FIORINO NOW. Located in a row home on Indian Queen Lane in the Falls (right down the street from the Old Academy Players where, incidentally, Grace Kelly got her acting start...) Fiorino is, hands down, the best Italian in the city. Maybe the best food in the city. No fancy trends here, just classic, homemade Italian--including the most delicious, magical, Gorgonzola Gnocchi you will ever have the pleasure of ingesting. Pillows of happiness. Just trust me. Tonight, G and I shared some Eggplant Rollatini before stuffing our faces with the special Tortellini with Mushrooms and Chef Franco's classic Bolongese. Word to the wise: Never on the menu but always in house is the Limoncello Cake, which you will NEED for dessert. (I know we did.) There's no better way to round out what's gonna be one of the yummiest meals you've had in a long time!
