Yeah, I’m not TOTALLY sure, but I’m fairly certain I suggested it. Whoopsies! But I’m positive it’ll be totally fine (cough cough). G and I are oddly compatible on lengthy drives, primarily because I sleep the whole time. Just kidding! (Sort of.) (Not really.)
In all seriousness, we’re both looking forward to the haul, ‘cause while they do serve up some painful/boring moments on occasion, road trips are also the greatest. Why?
- Snacks: George and I will spend an inordinate amount of time in the grocery store before a trip, carefully selecting the greatest car snacks of all time: fruit snacks (mine!) and beef jerky (ew, his!) We’re also gonna throw some Juicy Juice in there (duh), granola bars, and always, always, Goldfish crackers. (What do you think we are? Cavemen?) We don’t keep a lot of snacks around our place for obvious reasons related to my total lack of willpower, so a road trip is prime hogging out time.
- Pit Stops: Not to bring up food again (or, rather, “To totally bring up food again…”) but we also love seeking out region-specific pit stops, from oddities like South of the Border (Don’t get me started, as I WILL talk about this for 20 hours on end. And/or the amount of time it takes to get to Key West. Whichever is greater.) or Krystal Burger, the southern “mini-burger chain” I am chomping at the bit to try. (How many mini burgers can one girl eat? ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT!)
- The Sites: One time when we were driving through South Carolina I saw a guy walking a dog. While riding a horse. And drinking a Gatorade. Off in the distance was a broken-down pagoda. The end. Anther time, when I was driving through Kentucky with some friends, we saw a car towing another car…made out of paper mache. I mean, what? You see some really weird things from street level that you can’t possibly see from the air. And I'm not saying they aren't scary, I'm just saying that often times they're simultaneously awesome.
- The company: The best thing about vacation is jabbering on endlessly with G, so being trapped in the car with him isn’t a headache; it’s a bonus. We’ll just go ahead and pretend he’d say the same thing about me. Pffffft.
Who’s with me? Are you on team road trip? Tell me why you love ‘em or hate ‘em below!
