Though the drive up through the mountains kinda confirmed the JT (Jacuzzi Theory. Or, alternately, Justin Timberlake…but in a different context)—you know, lots of falling down cabins, weird bars (Just Rumors Bar & Grill: The Happening Place. For real.), and well, motels advertising Jacuzzis—the little town we landed in, called Hawley, squarely rejected it. Take that, stereotype!
Better yet, the folks who own and run The Ledges also own and run a few other spots nearby, all of them top-notch and about as far away from old school Poconos as you can get. There’s a delicious farm-to-table type restaurant at The Ledges, and a few hundred yards away is the lovely Hawley Silk Mill. This old mill has now been converted into a shop-local type paradise, full of art galleries, garden and furniture stores, and an adorable little market loaded down with regionally sourced goodies. ‘Cause who doesn’t want some elderflower lemonade from time to time?
