I took a little wander down memory lane last weekend when I was eating my Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza. DO NOT EVEN JUDGE. (Seriously, don't. 1) They're delicious and 2) It says not to in the Bible. BAM. Wiki it.)
Anyway, my mind drifted to the glory that was Book It! For those not in the know (AKA: Deprived Children of the '80s and Beyond), Book It! is a literacy initiative between Pizza Hut and schools throughout the country, wherein kids read a certain amount of books (or pages, or minutes) each month and earn delicious and doughy Personal Pan Pizzas as a result. You read, you eat (on the house). It's that simple
In short, Book It! is the greatest thing known to man. I mean, I got to 1) earn a free pizza 2) for creating a list of 3) the books that I read, which were 4) ultimately tallied on a super sweet hologram pin. Um? THERE IS NO PART OF THAT DESCRIPTION THAT IS NOT AWESOME. Ahem. Just saying.
PLUS, whenever it was time to get my free pizza my mom and I had "girls night out," which meant we got to ditch my dad and little brother. (Suckers!) On one such venture to The Hut I remember that my mom taught me the lyrics to "I Shot the Sheriff" (which my 7-year-old self found HILARIOUS. Sorry, Marley) and on another I somehow ended up with a Popple that was on clearance from Clover. (Whoa. Remember Popples? REMEMBER CLOVER?) See? It just keeps on getting better.
All this to say, clearly Book It! is incredible and needs to come back to my life. I mean, Pizza Hut wisely started up an alumni club last year on the initiative's 30th birthday (Still going strong! Elementary school kids rejoice!), but I don't want an alumni club. I want pizza-book challenges. And a pin.
Basically, Pizza Hut, what I'm saying is that you need to make Book It! The New Class ... for those of us who have perhaps gotten wrinklier but who have not lost our love of books and pizza.
A girl can dream can't, she?
What about you? Were you a Book It! kid, too? Hit me with your memories!
